Our Team Philosophy

ProAxis is led by founder and principal Dor Israel, CPA — licensed in both New Jersey and New York. Every client engagement is staffed under his direct supervision, with licensed-CPA expertise present throughout the relationship. We do not staff engagements with unlicensed preparers or bookkeepers presenting themselves as advisors. Our team holds active CPA licensure, completes the continuing professional education required to maintain those credentials, and stays current on both federal tax law changes and New Jersey- and New York-specific developments throughout the year.

We are a small, focused team by design. We do not try to serve every type of client in every state. We go deep on the industries and situations where our expertise delivers the most value — and we build long-term relationships with the clients we serve. Most of our clients come to us through referrals from existing clients, which we view as the strongest possible endorsement of the work we do.

Our commitment to responsive communication is not a marketing promise — it is a practice standard. Every team member understands that timely, clear communication is a core part of what we deliver, and we hold ourselves accountable to meeting that standard every day.

Our Credentials & Commitment to Clients

  • Active NJ & NY CPA licensure: Our principal holds active CPA licenses issued by both the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy and the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, fulfilling the continuing professional education required by both states annually.
  • AICPA membership: Our CPAs are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, adhering to the profession's code of professional conduct and ethical standards.
  • NJ Society of CPAs: We stay current with New Jersey-specific tax developments through membership and engagement with the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.
  • Technology certifications: Our team is trained and certified on leading cloud accounting platforms including QuickBooks Online, Xero, and related tools, ensuring efficient and accurate digital workflows.
  • IRS Authorized e-File Provider: ProAxis is an authorized IRS e-file provider, ensuring secure and timely electronic filing for all tax returns.

How We Staff Client Engagements

A common pattern at larger CPA firms is to win the engagement at the partner level, then push the day-to-day work to staff accountants who the client meets only briefly, if at all. We do not operate that way. Every ProAxis client has a direct line to the licensed CPA responsible for their engagement, and that CPA is the one who reviews the return, signs the engagement letter, and attends the planning conversations. When we do bring in a paraprofessional to handle data entry, bank reconciliations, or other procedural work, it is under explicit CPA supervision and the work product is reviewed before it goes anywhere near a tax return or a financial statement.

This model has tradeoffs. We are not the right fit for clients who want a 24/7 turnaround on every email, or who are looking for the lowest possible price. We are the right fit for clients who want their CPA to actually understand their business, return their phone calls, and remember the context from last quarter without re-reading the file every time. The clients who stay with us for years tend to be the ones who valued that distinction from the first conversation.

We also believe in saying no to engagements outside our core competency. We do not do international tax (FBAR/8938 disclosures aside), we do not do Big-Four-style audited financial statements, and we do not handle tax matters in states where we lack relevant experience. When a prospective client's needs fall outside what we do well, we will tell them and, where possible, refer them to a firm that is a better fit. Saying no to the wrong engagement is part of how we keep service quality high for the engagements we do take.

How does ProAxis staff client engagements differently from larger CPA firms?

At ProAxis, every client has a direct line to the licensed CPA responsible for their engagement. That CPA reviews the return, signs the engagement letter, and attends planning conversations — unlike larger firms that win the engagement at the partner level, then hand off day-to-day work to unlicensed staff the client rarely sees.

What professional credentials does the ProAxis team hold?

The ProAxis team holds active NJ and NY CPA licensure, AICPA membership, NJ Society of CPAs membership, QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification, and IRS Authorized e-File Provider status. All licensed team members complete the annual continuing professional education required by both New Jersey and New York.

How can I verify ProAxis's CPA credentials?

You can verify our CPA credentials through the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy's license lookup and the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions license verification system. ProAxis is also an AICPA member firm and an IRS Authorized e-File Provider.
