Who wrote this — and why you should still trust it. This guide is published by ProAxis Tax & Accounting Services, a licensed CPA firm serving Morris County. Yes, we include ourselves. Here is the deal we make with you: every firm below is real, independently established, and described from public sources — each firm’s own website and its public listings. We tell you who each firm is best for — including when that is not us. No firm paid to be listed. Judge us by the same criteria we apply to everyone else.

Morris County runs from Parsippany’s office corridors to Morristown’s green to the lake towns north. It holds hundreds of CPAs. Picking one is hard because most firms describe themselves the same way.

This guide takes a different approach. We compared established Morris County firms by specialty, service model, and public track record. Then we matched each firm to the client it serves best.

A contractor in East Hanover, a family needing an ITIN, and a business owner facing a divorce valuation do not need the same accountant. The right question is not “who is the best CPA in Morris County?” It is “who is the best CPA for my situation?”

How we chose

  • Specialty depth. Does the firm publish real expertise in a niche, or generic claims?
  • Service model fit. Virtual or in-office. A monthly relationship or a once-a-year filing.
  • Public track record. Google ratings and review counts, quoted as of August 5, 2026. These change — check current listings.
  • Independence. We excluded national-firm branch offices and firms since absorbed into larger organizations.
  • Morris County presence. Every firm here serves Morris County clients from a Morris County office.

Get a straight answer

1. Steven Lissner & Company LLC — best for long-standing tax prep with planning attached

Steven Lissner & Company works from Route 46 in Mountain Lakes. It holds the largest public review footprint of any firm we found in Morris County — 5.0 stars across 221 Google reviews as of August 5, 2026.

Publicly emphasized services include tax preparation and planning, payroll, retirement planning, family financial planning, and strategic business planning. The founder has practiced as a CPA for more than 30 years. The firm publicly lists service coverage across Parsippany, Boonton, Morris Plains, Randolph, and Rockaway.

Choose Lissner if: you want an established local office and value a long, visible track record with individuals and families.

2. Manisha Patel CPA — best for ITIN applicants and IRS Acceptance Agent work

Manisha Patel CPA operates from Baldwin Road in Parsippany and publicly identifies as an IRS Certified Acceptance Agent.

That designation matters. A Certifying Acceptance Agent can authenticate most identity documents for an ITIN application. The agent hands them back to you on the spot. That often saves you from mailing an original passport to the IRS. A plain Acceptance Agent instead reviews your documents and mails them in. The IRS marks plain acceptance agents with an asterisk on its state lists. Publicly emphasized services also include tax preparation and accounting.

Choose Manisha Patel CPA if: you or a family member needs an ITIN, or you file US returns without a Social Security number.

3. Magone & Company, P.C. — best for international tax, nonprofits, and specialized industries

Magone & Company works from Century Drive in Parsippany and publishes more than 30 years of practice. It is the most specialized general firm on this list.

Publicly emphasized focus areas include international taxation, nonprofit services, construction, wholesale distribution and manufacturing, and healthcare practices such as optometrists, dentists, chiropractors, and veterinarians. The firm also publishes advisory work covering compensation structures and merger and acquisition matters. It is listed in the NJCPA member marketplace.

Choose Magone if: you have cross-border income or foreign reporting obligations, run a nonprofit, or operate in distribution or manufacturing.

4. ProAxis Tax & Accounting Services — best for an integrated virtual firm handling books, tax, and planning together

Our firm. See the disclosure at the top — judge us by the criteria. We placed ourselves here, not first, because the firms above hold Morris County offices and we do not.

ProAxis is a licensed CPA firm (New Jersey and New York). It is built around one idea. Your bookkeeping, tax prep, and tax planning should live in one place, year-round.

The firm is 100% virtual with a secure client portal. It is based in Bergen County and serves Morris County clients. We do not have a Morris County office — that is the honest trade-off, and for some owners it matters.

Focus areas include NJ BAIT elections and multi-state filings, real estate investors, medical and dental practices, e-commerce sellers, and high-net-worth planning. ProAxis also publishes its bookkeeping pricing ranges openly. Most firms do not.

Credentials: AICPA and NJCPA member, Authorized IRS e-File Provider, IRS Tax Resolution Specialist, and Advanced Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor.

Choose ProAxis if: you run a small-to-mid-size business or have complex personal taxes, and you want proactive quarterly planning instead of a once-a-year filing relationship. Look elsewhere if: you want a local office to walk into, or you need audited financial statements or forensic work. See Matheson & Associates below.

5. Robert A. Corsi, CPA LLC — best for owner-led small business bookkeeping and payroll

Robert A. Corsi, CPA LLC works from Eagle Rock Avenue in East Hanover. The practice publishes more than 25 years of public accounting experience.

Publicly emphasized services include bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, tax planning, and consulting for small businesses and individuals.

Choose Corsi if: you want a smaller, owner-led relationship where the person you meet is the person doing the work. (If you would rather have books and tax handled as one monthly service, compare our bookkeeper vs. CPA-supervised bookkeeping guide.)

6. Matheson & Associates LLC — best for forensic accounting, valuations, and litigation support

Matheson & Associates works from South Jefferson Road in Whippany. The principal publishes more than 25 years of public and private accounting experience.

Publicly emphasized services include fraud and forensic accounting, business valuations, and expert witness testimony. The firm also publishes divorce and support work, estate, trust and gift returns, multi-state returns, not-for-profit work, business succession planning, and taxing authority representation. It is listed in the NJCPA member marketplace.

Choose Matheson if: you are in litigation, going through a divorce with a business to value, or buying or selling a company.

7. Sebak and Monner Associates — best for straightforward returns with IRS representation

Sebak and Monner Associates is a multi-office New Jersey firm founded in 1981. It maintains a Morristown office on High Street Court. Note that its practice spans several NJ locations rather than Morris County alone.

Publicly emphasized services include individual and business tax returns, tax planning, IRS representation, QuickBooks bookkeeping, and business formation and dissolution.

Choose Sebak and Monner if: you want the county seat convenience of Morristown and a firm with decades of continuous operation. (If your issue is federal or state collections specifically, also compare our IRS tax resolution service.)

How to actually decide

Specialties and ratings narrow the list. The final call comes from questions.

Ask each firm: Who will actually work on my account? What is included monthly, and what is billed extra? How do you handle NJ BAIT and multi-state filing?

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best CPA in Morris County, NJ?

There is no single best CPA — it depends on what you need. For international taxation or nonprofit work, Magone & Company in Parsippany publishes deep specialty focus. For forensic accounting, business valuation, or litigation support, Matheson & Associates in Whippany focuses there. For an integrated virtual firm handling books, tax, and planning together, ProAxis Tax & Accounting Services is a strong fit. That said, it holds no Morris County office. Match the firm’s specialty to your situation. Disclosure: this guide is published by ProAxis, and the comparison criteria are stated openly on this page.

How much does a CPA cost in Morris County NJ?

Fees vary by service and complexity. Individual returns typically run $400–$1,200. Business returns (S-Corp, LLC, partnership) typically run $800–$3,000+. Monthly bookkeeping typically ranges from $300–$500 for a solo operator up to $1,800–$4,000+ for multi-entity businesses. These are typical published ranges, not an offer — final fees are scoped during an engagement. Prefer firms that quote fixed fees in writing.

Which Morris County towns have the most CPA firms?

Parsippany-Troy Hills holds the densest concentration of CPA firms in Morris County, largely along the Route 46 and Route 10 office corridors. Morristown, the county seat, holds a cluster of smaller practices near the green. Whippany, East Hanover, Mountain Lakes, and Morris Plains are served by established independent firms. Firm density is not a quality signal — match specialty to your situation instead.

What is an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent, and when do I need one?

A Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) is authorized by the IRS to help applicants obtain an ITIN. That is an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. You may need one if you have a US tax filing obligation but are not eligible for a Social Security number. A CAA can authenticate most identity documents and return them to you right away. That usually saves you from mailing an original passport to the IRS. A plain Acceptance Agent is different. It reviews your supporting documents and mails them to the IRS instead. The IRS publishes a state-by-state list, and plain acceptance agents are marked with an asterisk.

How do I verify a Morris County CPA is actually licensed?

Search the CPA’s name in the New Jersey license verification system at newjersey.mylicense.com/verification/ or at CPAverify.org. For New York licenses, use op.nysed.gov/verification-search. Also check the IRS Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers at irs.treasury.gov/rpo for credentialed preparers. A firm may also appear in the IRS Authorized e-File Provider locator, but that public listing is opt-in. If a firm is not listed, ask it to confirm its e-file authorization rather than assuming it cannot e-file.
